A good budget also takes taxpayers into account
To Editor: I wanted to thank Governor Chris Sununu and the Legislature for their hard work on our state’s budget which has passed. Here in New Hampshire, our legislature takes the budget seriously and seeks not only to seek out what’s best for our state, but also to keep taxpayers and their wallets in mind. A responsible government should have a fair and balanced budget while considering the taxpayers and the cost to them.
We saw it in the budget giving us over $ 1 billion in tax savings over the next 10 years, lowering the room and meals tax by 5.55%, lowering taxes small business, by eliminating the interest and dividend tax altogether, and providing $ 100 million to small businesses in New Hampshire in PPP tax relief. The Rainy Day Fund has been increased by $ 36 million to a total of $ 158 million to prepare for future emergencies.
When we make financial advancements like these, it helps businesses thrive and hire, attracts families to move here, and benefits those who live here. Our state has been named one of the best to live in and these savings are helping a lot. We have seen an increase in the number of people moving here due to our lack of income tax, sales tax and our ability to make life more affordable by budgeting well. It allows people to save more money to put more food on the table, which we can all be thankful for.
